I Hauled This On My Bike

It's a bike move! Forget the perfectly good truck parked right there; this is how they do it on the left coast. If you've ever helped a friend move I bet you've said, "I'll never help another friend move!" What if you showed up and after carrying all their belongings to the front lawn they said, "Okay, now load everything in panniers and bike trailers and let's pedal over to the new house!"? I am sooo game!

Nice Rack

As if an old school, bad design bike rack isn't bad enough.... McGruders at Kemp Mill has made this one completely non-functional. It has been this way for weeks. When I asked the manager about it today his answer was, "what's wrong with it; I've seen other people using it." When we walked out to look at it he must have changed his story because he said he would have the carts moved. Even better he said using the U barriers around the door is fine with him!

HAIL NO

Rain, snow, sleet; how does it go? I've pedaled through it all. I've never really understood the difference between sleet and freezing rain UNTIL I rode through it. Have you ever used that chocolate sauce on ice cream that hardens when it sits? Yeah, it's like that. But you know, I've never done hail, until now. HAIL YEA!

De Tour

The National Park Service did a great job getting the word out about the Rock Creek Trail closure. The section between Virginia Avenue and P Street will be closed for several weeks while road work is done on the Parkway. There are detour signs, message boards, emails to WABA members, a paragraph in the Post. Kudos to NPS. As you are out on the detour be sure and peruse P Street; it's been spiffed up.

Cyclists Killed

Two bicyclists were killed and a third injured in California this morning. The driver crossed the center line and struck the three cyclists in Cupertino, Ca. Bikers interviewed near the scene said it is not uncommon to see cars speeding around the corner out of their lane. The road is fairly wide with a four to six foot bike lane. The driver of the car is a Santa Clara County sheriff's deputy who was on duty at the time of the accident. He is on administrative leave pending an investigation.

Lost. Found?

I thought I was careful. The wind tonight was fierce; perhaps it blew out of my pocket? Did I leave it at work? Did I inadvertently throw it in the trash? I'm not sure. When I left work I'm almost certain I had it with me, so I must have lost it on the ride. When I got home it was gone. I don't think I'll find it by morning no matter how long I stay up and look. If anyone sees it between home and work it just might be mine, then again it might be yours. Have you checked to see if you've lost one too? I'd really like my hour back please.

Wrong Side Of the Trolley Tracks

On one side of the Beltway you have signs that say "Keep Grovsner Green". Over there unfortunately the trail is still in pieces. There's a small gap, but I feel confident it will be completed soon. Yay. On the other side of the Beltway is this beautiful piece of trail abutted next to a multidwelling neighborhood and a lovely path connecting the two. But what's this, it's not cyclist friendly. What gives? Boo.

yes, no, yes

Top 3 most asked questions:

1. Didja ride?
It's still cute and the answer is typically the same.

2. Are you a vegetarian? (variations: vegan)
I still don't get it. Oddly, it's not usually yelled from a car at midnight on a Saturday night, BUT now possible. WHAT THE....

3. Do you even own a car?
Sadly, I still can't get a ten foot 2x4 home on the bike.
